  • Free hiatal hernia self-test
  • Immediate answers and advice
  • Results in 3 minutes

Complete this simple online test in just three minutes and find out whether your symptoms are caused by a hiatal hernia. You will get an immediate answer of how likely it is that this is the cause behind your symptoms.

The test cannot replace a medical examination by your physician, but it gives a good indication whether you have a hiatal hernia or not, explanations why it occurs – and what you can do about it.

How do I check myself for a hiatal hernia?

The easiest way to check yourself for a hiatal hernia is to look for symptoms caused by stomach acids leaking into the oesophagus. There are several signs to look for:

  • Heartburn & acid reflux
  • A feeling of a lump in the throat
  • Persistent coughing
  • Thick mucus in the throat
  • A hoarse voice
  • Chest pains
  • Belching or gas

Adding all symptoms together to see a pattern

Having one of these symptoms just once might not be a sign of a hiatal hernia. Having recurring problems, or several of these symptoms at the same time, might however be a sign that you have a hiatal hernia.

Adding these symptoms together to see a pattern is easiest done through our self test. The test will give you a chance to look at all symptoms individually and estimate how much trouble they are causing you.

Find out through our test

The more symptoms you have and the more they are bothering you, the more likely you are to have a hiatal hernia.

The results from the test will then show the likelihood that you have hernia – all symptoms taken into account.

What is a hiatal hernia finger test?

You might have heard about a method known as the hiatal hernia finger test.

The idea of the test is to place your fingers below your sternum, on the upper abdomen and then take a deep breath to make your stomach expand. According to this theory, doing this is supposed to show that a potential hernia in that case would restrict the movement of your diaphragm.

Healthcare professionals are not using the finger test

It is important to remember that there is no scientific research supporting this method and that healthcare professionals are not using the hiatal hernia finger test when diagnosing a hiatal hernia.
