International Reflux Day -9th november
On November 9, we mark International Reflux Day – a day for everyone who experiences heartburn, acid reflux or a lump-in-the-throat feeling. Many people recognise these symptoms but don’t realise they may be signs of acid reflux.
Because reflux is rarely talked about openly, many live with their discomfort in silence.
That’s why we want to use this day to raise awareness, increase understanding and break the silence.
By talking about reflux, you can gain a better understanding of what happens in your body – and take steps towards feeling better. The day also provides an opportunity to share experiences, learn from research, and listen to people who live with similar challenges.
What is International Reflux Day?
International Reflux Day is a global initiative launched by MYoroface AB to raise awareness of reflux. Every year on November 9, people, experts and organisations come together to share information and experiences.
Reflux-related conditions affect at least 20% of the population in the Western world. They impact not only daily life but also quality of life and health. By highlighting reflux, we aim to increase understanding and inspire more people to seek help.
We also want to show that you are not alone.
What is reflux?
Reflux occurs when stomach acid flows back up into the oesophagus. When the acid reaches the lining of the throat, it can cause discomfort and irritation.
It often happens because the diaphragm – the muscle that keeps the stomach in place – has weakened. As a result, acid can more easily leak up into the oesophagus.
The most common symptoms are:
- Feeling of a lump in your throat
- Heartburn
- Acid regurgitation
- Difficulty in swallowing
- Dry cough
- Thick and bubbly saliva
- Pain in the upper part of the abdomen
